What is a RORO shipment?

Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) is a specialised method for transporting various types of cargo, most often vehicles and heavy machinery via a ramp. As the name suggests, this approach involves rolling the cargo directly on and off the vessel, making it a quick and efficient way to move vehicles and other large items which traditional container ships cannot.

Unlike traditional container shipping, RORO doesn’t require extensive packaging or crating. That said, RORO shipping is also typically a very good fit for OOG (Out of Gauge) shipments. These are oversized shipments that don’t fit precisely within the confines of typical shipping containers. Much of the time, securing these large OOG items to a truck and shipping them on a RORO vessel is the best option.
