Aucklands empty container yard congestion

We would like to bring to your attention that we are experiencing, with increased frequency I might add,  empty container depots being either at or beyond capacity. The result being that often the depot will not accept empty import containers for dehire. An example of this is UCL Depot who are fully booked out for the next two weeks.Other depots are only accepting import dehires when the truck has an export pick up to match.
At the same time we are also experiencing IT system issues between ship line and container depot. The issues can be technical as well time consuming to fix. Shipping Lines are not being overly helpful in assisting and major time delays are being experienced in notifying us where the acceptances are. When the ship line does assist the depot does not have a copy hence they are unawares of incoming empties. This circumstance has occurred  a couple of times, extra trucking costs are incurred to which the depots as well shipping lines accept no responsibility. Its very disappointing to say the least.

Other depots are requesting bookings to be made manually whilst they attempt to micro-manage the situation. This is well in good but very slow. Truck turn around times are between 30 mins and 2 hours.

If you are experiencing delay in the dehire of your container(s) we do apologise and would like to assure that we are doing everything within our power to ensure dehire is completed ASAP.

With the above in mind, please be aware that detention issues are already here and we are no longer able to dehire containers within the 48 hours we pride ourselves on.
